Things to Do In and Around Vista…When It’s Raining

Winter is here and the predicted El Nino rain has started to fall. While we are in desperate need of the wet weather here in Southern California, it does put a slight damper on our usual outdoor lifestyle — we’re pretty used to sunny weather all year round. While some people aren’t going to let a little rain stand in their way, a majority of us will be inclined to stay indoors on damp days. However, rainy weather doesn’t have to hinder your SoCal winter fun. On the contrary! If you’re not a dancing in the rain puddle jumper type, you just have to get creative and seek out some fun activities that can be enjoyed indoors. Here are some fun things to do in and around Vista while it’s raining:

Get Jumping!

Indoor trampoline parks are popping up everywhere, and we love them. What could be better than getting your heart rate going while carelessly leaping high up into the air. This activity inevitably makes us smile and laugh so the extra ‘feel good’ endorphins are an added bonus to this activity. There are several trampoline parks in the North County area including one in Vista called, Get Air, which is located at 2755 Dos Aarons Way, Vista, CA 92081.

Indoor Rock Climbing

If you’re craving outdoor activities but are forced to stay indoors due to the wet weather, consider some indoor rock climbing. Rock climbing is a fantastic form of exercise to help build upper body and core strength. It’s also a strategic activity, so your brain gets a good workout too. Vista has an awesome rock climbing gym that specializes in a certain type of rock climbing called, bouldering. The Wall Climbing Gym is is located at 1210 Keystone Way, Vista, CA 92081. If you’re looking for a traditional rock climbing gym (that uses equipment) there’s one just east of Vista in San Marcos, called Solid Rock Gym.

Book at Escape Room Adventure

Ever heard of an Escape Room? If you haven’t, and you love mysteries, puzzles, brain games and the like, you’ve simply got to check this out. In the nearby town of downtown Carlsbad there’s an Escape Room facility called, School of Hard Locks, located at 2850 Pio Pico Drive, Suite I, Carlsbad, CA 92008. They explain it best on their website with this description:

“Real-life room escape games are an immersive adventure game in which people are locked in a room with other participants and have to use their wits, persistence and collaboration skills to escape the room within a set time limit. Whether you are with a group of family members, friends, co-workers or even strangers, your goal is simple: find clues, solve puzzles, and work together to open the locked door in under 60 minutes.”

This fun activity is for ages 16 and up and can be great fun for friends, family, and even as a corporate team building event.

Make Your Own Wine!

Yes. You heard us correctly. You can make your own wine right here in Vista. We’ll preface that it is a costly venture, but they do offer financing so if you’re a wine enthusiast this might just be worth the investment. Fifty Barrels Winery offers something called ‘Build a Barrel’ (Custom Micro Crush), which is an all-inclusive winemaking service that allows wine lovers to have their very own wine made for them without having to actually own a winery. You can be as involved, or hands-off as you prefer. The beauty is that the wine you create is all yours. The process includes:

  • Grapes
  • Crushing, Fermenting, and Pressing
  • Barrel
  • Barrel aging, topping, racking, and storage
  • Bottling and supplies (includes bottles and corks)
  • Labeling (additional fees may apply for custom work and printing)
  • Regular, ongoing consultation

If making your own wine simply isn’t within the budget, you might consider signing up for one of their Paint and Wine Nights. A little wine and a paintbrush on a cold rainy night might could turn into quite a creative and memorable evening. Fifty Barrels Winery is located at 230 Main Street, Vista, CA 92084.

All of the above suggestions are just a few of our favorites, but there really are so many other things you can enjoy indoors on a rainy day around town. You could go see a play at our very own Avo Playhouse in downtown Vista, or take-in a movie at the nearby Cinepolis, or even just enjoy a comforting meal at The Yellow Deli or Urbn Pizza. One last suggestion might be to round up some friends at one of our many local breweries in Vista. If you’d rather stay home, maybe stock up on some games, puzzles and plan out some quality time at home with family and friends.
