Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness: The Team of North County Plumbing is Pinking Out!

North County Plumbing Pink Out 2

We’re a fun (and a sometimes silly) bunch over here at North County Plumbing, but our sense of family is something our crew takes very seriously. As a certified California Women Minority Owned Business, the health and wellness of the family we’re surrounded by in our office (and beyond) is an important aspect of our world and this month it comes to the forefront. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and North County Plumbing is officially in full swing with our company-wide Pink Out to show our support toward spreading awareness and joining the force in the fight for a cure against breast cancer.

North County Plumbing Breast Cancer Awareness

The unfortunate reality is that many of us have been affected by breast cancer at some point in our lives, whether directly or indirectly. While this disease largely affects women, men aren’t exempt either and statistics show that they’re often left undiagnosed until a much later stage. So don’t let the universal blushed hue associated with this awareness fool you, the support we show is for ALL in this fight.

Our team thrives on positivity, so our Pink Out is taken to a happy place of awareness in an effort to encourage prevention and show our heartfelt support. Our hope is to inspire our customers, and all who cross our paths, to stay educated, aware, and take the necessary steps on a regular basis to stay on top of their breast health. And while seeing the blast of pink across the country this October is meant to serve as a reminder for awareness and prevention for those of us who are fortunate enough to have our health, this banding together also serves as a means of support to those who are battling breast cancer, or even for those who’ve suffered a loss of a loved one.

So what is the Pink Out? It’s no joke! All of our marketing materials including business cards, coupons, flyers, and magazines go full-on pink. Our office staff wears pink every day during the month of October. You’ll see our field staff wearing pink ribbons Monday thru Friday, and they’ll be sporting our very own branded NCP breast cancer awareness pink shirts every Friday throughout the month.

It doesn’t stop there, though, we hand out a special package to every customer which includes a pink pin, pens, and a calendar complete with “check yourself” reminders. Our involvement also extends to the sponsorship of a team who participate in the Susan G. Komen walk for a cure. This is our third year of the annual Pink Out and is something we plan to continue with indefinitely.

In closing with this, we’d like to share with you some tips to maintain your breast health (courtesy of the Susan G. Komen website). Help us all spread the word and show your support not only to yourself, but to those around you and let’s all band together to win this fight for a cure!

  1. Know your risk

  • Talk to your family to learn about your family health history
  • Talk to your doctor about your personal risk of breast cancer
  1. Get screened*

  • Ask your doctor which screening tests are right for you if you are at a higher risk
  • Have a mammogram every year starting at age 40 if you are at average risk
  • Have a clinical breast exam at least every 3 years starting at 20, and every year starting at 40
  1. Know what is normal for you.  See your health care provider right away if you notice any of these breast changes:

  • Lump, hard knot or thickening
  • Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening
  • Change in the size or shape of the breast
  • Dimpling or puckering of the skin
  • Itchy, scaly sore rash on the nipple
  • Pulling in of your nipple or other parts
  • Nipple discharge that starts suddenly
  • New pain in one spot that does not go away
  1. Make healthy lifestyle choices

  • Maintain a health weight
  • Add exercise into your routine
  • Limit alcohol consumption
