So, what is hydro-jetting and when is it necessary? – If your sewer lines are sluggish or problematic it may have you dreading the possibility of a costly and messy plumbing repair. Before you jump to this conclusion consider that the problem could potentially be solved with a quick and simple cleaning method called, hydro-jetting.
Hydro-jetting, also known as Hydro Scrubbing, is a process that deep cleans your sewer pipes with high-pressure streams of water shooting out of a hose at up to 3,500 psi. The output pressure of these water streams are so strong they can effectively clear out almost any debris that may be clogging up or blocking your sewer lines.
Not to be confused with snaking, hydro-jetting is unique because it is the only process that can actually clean your sewer lines. A snake or cable typically punctures holes in the debris or blockage to allow flow again. Unfortunately, this process will often leave some debris behind allowing for more debris to accumulate and become trapped, thereby causing the clog to happen all over again or even make it worse.
How Does Hydro-jetting Work?
The hydro-jetting machine is constructed of a large water tank with a high-pressure hose and nozzle from which pressurized water is sprayed at an extremely powerful flow rate of up to 3,500 psi (pound per square inch), utilizing up to 18 gpm (gallons per minute). An accessible opening typically referred to as a “Clean Out”, is a standard feature in all plumbing systems and is specifically designed to allow plumbers to easily flush out any debris that may be present. Plumbing systems are designed to carry waste water downstream via gravity. The Hydro Jet nozzle is positioned at this downstream end of the plumbing system and the high-pressure water is shot upstream against gravity. The idea is that any debris cleared out by the Hydro Jetter will safely flow downstream to the already clear drainage path. Professional plumbing Hydro Jetting machines are capable of clearing out several hundred feet of sewer line.
When is Hydro-jetting Necessary?
While certain drain clogging products and snakes can effectively clear a stoppage or slow leak, there are times when the problem runs much deeper in your plumbing lines. Elements such as such as grease, debris, roots, sand or dirt can all cause serious clogs that may require the attention of Hydro-jetting. This is when it’s time to call a plumber so they can properly assess the situation and determine if bringing a hydro-jetting machine is necessary to remedy the problem.
