DIY Natural Cleaning Recipes (Part 2)

Cleaning Solution and Sponges

Home maintenance includes the finest of details including one of the more unpleasant but necessary tasks of cleaning your bathrooms. For part two of our DIY Natural Cleaning Recipe blog series, bathroom cleaning supplies were our inspiration. When it comes to choosing your cleaning solutions, stay away from harsh commercial ones filled with chemicals. You don’t need these products to get your bathroom looking spotless. Use the following all-natural easy to make cleaning recipes instead.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

When your toilet needs a good scrubbing, you’ll need a homemade cleaner that’s up to the task. Try this recipe for a heavy duty cleaner that will leave your toilet bowl looking as good as new. You’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Three-quarters cup borax
  • One cup white vinegar
  • 10 drops lavender oil
  • 5 drops lemon oil

Mix these ingredients in a spray bottle, then flush your toilet to get the surface of the bowl damp. Put the mixture in the bowl, then leave it there for at least a few hours. Use a brush to scrub the bowl, then flush to rinse the mixture off.

Drain Solution/Cleaner

Whether your drains are looking a bit messy or causing your sink or tub to drain very slowly, a good cleaning can take care of the problem. Commercial drain solutions usually have caustic ingredients that can end up damaging your pipes. For a natural drain solution, use the following:

  • Half cup baking soda
  • Half cup salt
  • One-eighth cup cream of tartar

Wipe the inside of the drain with a paper towel to remove hair and other debris, then mix the ingredients in a mason jar. Close the jar, shake it and pour half of the mixture in the drain. Pour two cups of boiling water in the drain, then let it sit for an hour. Run the water to rinse the remaining solution.

Cabinet Cleaner

Grime and dust can build up on bathroom cabinets over time, but you can easily get rid of that with a homemade cleaner. To make a natural cabinet cleaner, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Vinegar
  • Water

Mix vinegar and water to create a cleaning solution that removes sticky or grimy films from cabinets. Use plain water to rinse off your cabinets. Keep in mind that if you have wood cabinets, you’ll need to make sure they’re dried off thoroughly to prevent water damage or warping.
